My Saturday run with all my bad as* friends....

Yesterday was my 2nd "official" 1/2 Marathon - The "Make It A Great Day!" Half Marathon. All proceeds from the event will benefit the NY Oncology Hematology Cancer Resource Foundation. The event is in honor of Ed Peck, a former eighth grade teacher at Tamarac who has battled Multiple Myeloma Cancer.

It's a much less crowded race (so far) and starts and finishes in front of Brittonkill Central School, looping through the town of Brunswick, NY. The 5k course is also out and back, following the first leg of the half marathon.

I started off ok but way too fast apparently.  I had hopes of staying with my verrrrrry bad mamajama friend but unfortunately after mile 7 or so, she was looooong gone.  I tried my best to keep her in sight but she just was too fast for me.   Everything seemed so off for me - my breathing from the pollen, forgetting my ShotBloks in the car, all of it.  But my time was still decent and instead of wallowing in self-pity (that was yesterday), I'm accepting that my time wasn't as good as the first 1/2 marathon I did but that it was still a good time for 13.1 miles.  Congrats to everyone that ran that day - and a huge shout out to these 3 sisters who ran and each earned a personal record!!

3 Bad Mama-Sisters - I mean BAD - like all had PR's bad!

The hot mama to the right not only completed her first
1/2 Marathon that day
but then went to graduation where she earned her MS in Nursing!!!!

1/2 Marathon or 5K - a run is a run - and today was another day to prove how strong we are :)

Who say's you can't lift weights AND run?

Thanks to the Dragonfly Adventure for this great local race!

Take your loop-de-loop and pull, and your shoes are lookin' cool...

So I took the week off from Body Pump - ugh and I hate it.  There, got that off my chest.  Moving onnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn.

After eating my son's leftover Five Guys burger and salty fries last night (ugh, holy dehydrated today!)  I attempted a mini cleanse this morning by making and drinking up this vegetable/fruit goodness.

Hoping to get a quick 3 mile run in today before the 1/2 marathon tomorrow.  I also want to test out my new way of lacing my shoes.

I bet you never knew there were so many ways to lace up your running sneakers.  Usually we buy them already cross-laced and just go with it.  I guess until I actually started having foot pain I paid little attention - but recently I started researching all the different ways to tie up those sneakers - I'd HIGHLY suggest you watch this Runner's World video - if you have ANY sort of foot pain.  Most times we have foot pain and are quick to get inserts or brand new sneakers (guilty) and wouldn't it be great if just changing the way we lace our sneakers could fix all that?  Probably not the case all the time but even to ease some of the pain! Well here's to hopin'!!!

Fat boy shoe laces.
I miss big laces.

And jellies - I miss those too.

jellies!!!

Oh and these things!!

banana clips

Anyone had success by changing their lacing style?

2013 CDPHP Workforce Challenge

Tonight was the 2013 CDPHP Workforce Challenge. The CDPHP® Workforce Team Challenge is the Capital Region’s workforce team run and walk — and the largest annual road race between Utica and New York City. It's a 3.5 mile race, after work race where colleagues and coworkers form teams compete together in this race through Washington Park.

And it looks a little something like this:

Crazy right?  I've never actually done the race but my husband and friends have - seems this year seemed (if possible) was even MORE crowded.  Looks similar to the Freihofer's Run for Women.

-->

So my question is - are these over-crowded races fun?  Obviously doing these races with the hopes of breaking some personal records is probably not going to happen but it certainly was a beautiful night for it so I imagine it's more for the comradery of it all.

Speak to me Capital Region - how was the 2013 Workforce Challenge this year?
